1988, the footprint left by Corex

    • Pioneer of Korean MTBs

Bicycles are now organized in more than 10 categories, depending on purpose and structure. However, back in 1988, bicycles were still recognized as being either for adults or juniors, which made the emergence of the first MTB ever more powerful with its strange MTB seat, wide wheels, and suspension.

    • Export power, taking

    • North America by storm

Corex was actually better recognized in global markets. Corex achieved the first USD 10 million milestone in the industry in 1985, and doubled that achievement two years later in 1987. In 1988, its export numbers hit the 1.5 million mark, becoming the largest bicycle producer in Korea, and earning 10% and 15% market shares in the United States and Canada, respectively. Corex also played a big part in showcasing the quality of Made in Korea by earning Germany’s GS mark, which is famous around the world for its strictness.

    • Leader in sports

    • and leisure

Corex did not stop at introducing new products into the domestic market. With its expertise gained by selling more than 1 million bicycles to cultural leaders, it focused on the novel concept of sports and leisure. Corex founded the first major MTB competition in Korea, the “Corex National MTB Competition,” in 1991, and in 1992, founded the first BMX performance team in Korea, “Team Corex,” introducing new bicycle cultures to the nation. It also opened the “Corex Bicycle Adventure” exhibition in what would become the Everland Resort Complex in Yongin, and published the first bicycle newsletter, “Cross Country News,” in Korea, playing a vital role in abolishing the misconception that bicycles are nothing more than a means of transport.

    • Corex – Ride

    • with pride,

    • ever ready

    • for victory

Corex was at the heart of many historical events and legends by introducing an entire culture, centered around bicycles, and igniting the ambition and passion of young adventurers. Corex is still a faithful cornerstone of Alton Sports, symbolizing “riding with pride for victory,” with the pioneer creed at its heart. Corex will be remembered not only as a fond memory but as a symbol of “eternity,” from the ages where nobody knew what to do with sports culture to the new age of adventure and ambition that we live in today.
